The service of PSA Hearing Aid Bank, through the collaboration between PSA Charitable Foundation, New Taipei City Government, and eleven local hearing clinics, has reached more than 90% satisfactory rate! In response to WHO World Hearing Day on March 3rd, PSA Foundation hosts a live streaming show To Hear for Life, Listen with Care on Facebook and there will be a raffle afterwards. The whole new hearing care radio program Sublimation of Voice, Hear the Love is on the air! Do not miss the premiere of the first comprehensive hearing care program on air every Friday with Voice of Han Broadcasting Network.

(March 3rd, Taipei) Early this year, PSA Foundation has launched a collaboration with New Taipei City Government to provide Hearing Aid Bank service. Since then, the satisfactory rate of the successfully matched cases has reached 90%! This service makes it possible for the residents in New Taipei City to get free hearing consultation and hearing aids try-outs at eleven local hearing clinics, in addition to PSA headquarter. According to case feedback, “professionalism of the service” during the process has been valued the most by the cases and “understanding of the adaptation process of wearing hearing aids” has been considered the most helpful by all cases. In response to the theme of 2022 WHO World Hearing Day, “To hear for life, listen with care!”, PSA Foundation will host a live streaming seminar with the same title at 12am, March 3rd to promote the safe hearing 60-60 rule—headphone volume under 60% and listening time under 60 minutes. PSA Foundation invites the public to join the streaming and leave a message to enter a raffle to win gift certificate! In order to bring the concept of hearing care closer to the general public, PSA has launched the first radio program with the theme of hearing care, “Sublimation of voice, hear the love”. It premieres at 6:20pm every Friday on Voice of Han Broadcasting Network. From the experience sharing of hearing-impaired cases and their caretakers to the professional analysis and advice of doctors and social workers, the program intends to provide the public a comprehensive discussion on the issues of hearing loss and hearing care. More hearing care promotion activities will be held throughout March, the Hearing Care Month.

PSA Foundation collaborates with New Taipei City Government and eleven local hearing clinics to provide Hearing Aid Bank service, which has earned high satisfactory rate from the public!

According to the PSA Foundation survey on 2020, the prevalence of elderly disabling hearing loss over the age of 65 has reached 40% in Taiwan. In other words, there are approximately 1.37 million people with elderly disabling hearing loss in Taiwan! In order to serve more hearing-impaired elderly and answer the general public’s doubts of wearing hearing aids, PSA Foundation has collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare, New Taipei City to establish the New Taipei City Hearing Aid Bank service. People in needs may go to the eleven local participating hearing clinics (see Table 1) to try out the hearing aids for 15 days for free and then choose the most suitable one to purchase.

Lin Long Sen, PSA CEO, states: “The headquarter of PSA Foundation is located right at New Taipei City. With this geographical advantage, we collaborated with New Taipei City Government to establish the Hearing Aid Bank in hopes of providing free and convenient consultation for local people. Eleven hearing clinics in New Taipei City have answered the call and participated in providing the service. We deeply appreciate the New Taipei City Government for putting the trust on the professional service of PSA Foundation. We hope the collaboration between New Taipei City Government and PSA Foundation will provide a model for further hearing aid bank establishment in every city and county.”

PSA Foundation has served more than 66 person-time at New Taipei City hearing aid bank and the satisfactory rate of successfully matched cases has reached 90%! Through the hearing aid bank, the cases have learnt how to choose a proper hearing device. But more importantly, said the interviewed cases, the hearing aid bank has helped them to understand the adaptation process of wearing the aids.

The director of PSA Hearing Health Care& Promotions Center, Huang Yung Yao pointed out that “most elders expect to gain back their normal hearing immediately after fitting the hearing aids. They tend to ignore that aural rehabilitation includes, in addition to using the hearing aids properly, sufficient auditory stimulation (time and volume), activation of auditory memory, and communication strategy. It usually takes three to six months to achieve significant results.” Director of New Taipei City Assistive Technology Resources Center, Yang Zhong Yi further noted that “in addition to paying attention to the product warranty, the key of choosing hearing aids is professional guidance. The purpose of Hearing Aid Bank is to help the hearing-impaired without hearing aids to choose a suitable device and to help the one with ineffective device to improve their wearing experience.”

In hopes of helping hearing impaired to choose and fit the hearing aids correctly, PSA Foundation provides professional online consultation as a third sector NPO. People who are interested in our service are welcome to follow PSA Guardian Angel of the Ear Dordor line@. In response to the World Hearing Day, PSA Foundation has launched a series of hearing care live streaming seminars and a radio program Sublimation of Voice, Hear the Love.

For the annual World Hearing Day on March 3rd, PSA hosts a series of activity in response to this year’s theme To Hear for Life, Listen with Care! At 12am, March 3rd, PSA CEO Lin Long Sen will host a live streaming show focusing on the theme of To Hear for life, Listen with Care on the official PSA Facebook page. The show calls on the public to reduce the noise and protect the ears while emphasizing the key concept of “hearing safety” in the WHO annual theme of “preventing hearing loss by listening safely”. In addition, the show continues to promote the PSA’s hearing 60-60 rule—headphone volume under 60% and listening time under 60 minutes. People who watch the live streaming and leave a message will have a chance to win gift certificate of convenient stores in the raffle.

In order to bring the proper hearing care concept closer to the public, PSA Foundation has invited Golden Bell Awards hostess, Xie Ruo Nan, to co-produce the first hearing care radio program Sublimation of Voice, Hearing the Love in Taiwan. The program not only presents the physical aspect of hearing loss, but also explores the psychological aspect of hearing loss and care. The discussion will be focus on four topics—hearing care, cognitive communication, caretaker respite, and friendly behavior. It is anticipated that the program will enhance people’s understanding on the urgency of hearing loss care service, raise the attention on hearing health and protection, increase the communication, and encourage the general public to treat hearing impaired with kindness. The program also promotes the environmental awareness on noise reducing and quietness in hopes to create a comfortable living space and improve the quality of life.

The program invites many well-known otologists and audiologists to introduce hearing loss and its causes, to teach the public how to prevent and deal with hearing loss, and to help people wear the hearing aids correctly. In addition, it invites not only the hearing-impaired and caretakers to share their experiences, but also social workers and psychologists to discuss their service experiences and how to treat the hearing-impaired properly. Through the program, the audience will gain a comprehensive understanding of hearing health and care. The program will premiere at 6:20pm every Friday on Voice of Han Broadcast Network. The recordings can be found at PSA Foundation official website or search for Sublimation of Voice, Hear the Love on Podcast.
